Rasmus Paludan, a member of the Danish far-right Hard Line party (Stram Kurs), was banned from Sweden for two years after he was suspected of organising an anti-Islam demonstration in Malmo, in defiance of a police ban.

The politician had asked permission for a protest to burn a copy of the Quran, but authorities turned down his request, arguing that police could not safeguard the participants safety.

Rasmus Paludan decided to visit Malmo anyway, but he was detained near Lernacken. Eventually, he was expelled and banned from entering Sweden for two years.

His supporters, however, went ahead with the rally and – according to Samhallsnytt – set a copy of the Quran on fire in the district of Rosengard, which boasts a large immigrant community. They have filmed their stunt and also shared the video online.

Another riot took place on one of Malmo s main squares, Stor, where three men were kicking a copy of the Quran around like a football. Police made several arrests.

Authorities have detained at least three individuals by the end of the day for inciting racial hatred.

The series of stunts and incidents have triggered massive riots in the city in the evening. Hundreds of Muslims took to the streets where they set tyres ablaze and kept shouting Allahu Akbar .

Although police had banned the anti-Islam protest and made several arrests, the arriving officers were attacked by an angry mob in the evening,w ho kept throwing stones and firecrackers at them. The incoming ambulance vehicles have also been attacked, SVT reports.

Thomas Soderberg from the Malmo police said at least 10 people had been detained on suspicion of harassment. „No member of the public has been wounded, but a few police officers have sustained light injuries,” he added.
