The European Commission shows extreme hypocrisy with proposing to freeze substantial funds for Hungary, said Petra Steger, a member of the right-wing Austrian Freedom Party (FPO).

„While the European Union itself is constantly violating its own treaties – starting with the debt and transfer union, the monetary state financing through the European Central Bank, the arbitrary admission of more and more candidates who do not meet any of the Copenhagen criteria and the continuous arbitrary extension of powers – Hungary is now being massively sanctioned for alleged corruption. This is a totally disproportionate decision that seems more like a political campaign against conservative nation states which do not support the Brussels agenda.”

FPO’s spokesperson on European affairs pointed out, noting that Hungary is one of the few EU countries fighting illegal migration and is not involved in anti-business sanctions against Russia. The Brussels elite should have taken Hungary as an example instead of introducing the sanctions, Ms Steger opined.

The FPO therefore calls on the Austrian government not to support the „grotesque and hypocritical” proposal of the European Commission.
