The scandal surrounding Imre Martha – the CEO of the utility companies of a Budapest under a leftist-liberal management – appears to be growing. According to some sources, the CEO has no plans to stay in Hungary on the long run, as he will soon embark on a building project on a Florida plot by the ocean. The luxury plot, unattainable to ordinary people, is located in the farthest corner of an artificial island, as proven by a sales contract obtained by Metropol. Experts interviewed by the daily estimate the value of the picturesque plot at 3-4 million dollars.

The value of the corner plot property is multiplied by the possibility to add a marina to it, allowing the owner to sail out to the Gulf of Mexico through an artificial canal system. Nearby is the area of the Ten Thousand Islands National Park, a popular hideout for billionaires from all over the world.

The head of Budapest’s public utilities company likes to flaunt his luxury lifestyle on social media, Metropol points out. In one of the photos shared online, Mr Martha boasts about having an own mailbox in the land of billionaire tycoons.

The portal points to the mystery of how the chief of Budapest’s Public Area Maintenance, District Heat Provider, Funeral Services, Public Parks Maintenance and Chimney Sweeping Companies had managed to end up on a private island fit for billionaires when he’s never appeared on the list of the wealthiest Hungarians. And while Imre Martha keeps bragging about his immense wealth, the municipality of Budapest skimps on employees and services to local residents. Thousands of rubbish bins have been removed from the streets and the number of venues suitable to purchase public transport tickets or passes has also been reduced. Moreover, a great number of employees, including mothers raising children, have been sacked from Budapest’s public utility companies, citing lack of money, Metropol writes.
