Climate zealots cause massive damage to motorists

There is no respite for Berlin motorists who are being terrorised by climate warriors using new, dangerous methods. In addition, some politically-motivated measures are also making life impossible for motorists.

In Berlin a growing number of motorists find it impossible to head off to work or visit the doctor in the morning, because self-appointed climate „protectors” are causing considerable damage to their vehicles using a variety of methods. Police in Berlin have registered over 600 reports filed by victims since November 2021, and the number of unreported incidents is presumably much higher.

Puncturing the tyre of vehicles has become common practice in recent months. The group known for employing this method makes no effort whatsoever to conceal its presence, so it typically sticks a message on the windscreens signed Tyre Extinguishers, in a bid to draw attention to vehicles’ harmful emissions.

„Attention! Your fuel-guzzling car is lethal. Driving a vehicle like this in central areas has massive consequences for others,” their leaflets say.

Besides the high-powered vehicles boasting large engines, self-appointed social justice warriors also tend to damage cars with small engines. Owners of lower mid-range cars, such as an Audi Q3, also become victims, a middle-class businessman from Berlin-Weissensee told the Junge Freiheit weekly. He said he was unable to attend an important work meeting because activists had deflated his car’s tyres.

The clearly visible child seats on the inside did not prevent the extremists from causing huge damage to his car. The man said that the day before the vandalism, he had to take one of his young kids urgently to the doctor, noting that he did not want to imagine what would have happened if the car’s tyres had been punctured that very day.

He took legal action, he said, adding, however, that after a few weeks he received a notification from the authorities saying that the investigation had been closed.

For months now, motorists have been suffering from the actions staged by Letzte Generation (Last Generation), a radical climate group whose members regularly block traffic – by gluing themselves to roads, for instance – causing huge traffic jams. Beyond putting their lives at danger, they also risk the lives of others with their protests, as preventing emergency services – fire, ambulance or police – vehicles from responding to an alert in time may have fatal consequences. As V4NA already highlighted in a previous article, radical climate activist Christian Blaul came to the defence of Last Generation, saying it was worth taking risks for a noble cause.

“One thing I always prepare for mentally, at least in my subconscious, is that someone will die because of a traffic jam. But we must run this risk,”

the climate activist is heard saying in Benedict Bartsch’s documentary. He then asked:

“The question is: what is better? Not to protest and accept the fossil deal, or to try something that can transform society and slow down the climate disaster?”

Blaul is one of the best-known climate activists from the Letzte Generation group. Last August, he gained notoriety for a protest that caused a traffic jam in Stockholm, Sweden. After the demonstration, local authorities threw him in jail for 16 days, and he was also taken to court on multiple occasions.

Unfortunately, there have already been examples in Germany where the actions of climate protesters have played a role in the failure to save a victim’s life.

In Autumn, a cyclist was declared brain dead following a collision with a concrete mixer in Berlin. Her injuries could have been mitigated, had emergency response vehicles not been hampered by climate change activists blocking the road. A spokesperson for the Berlin fire brigade confirmed that emergency response vehicles had been delayed due to protests by climate change activists, who were blocking the A100 autobahn.

After authorities announced that the woman involved in the accident was brain dead, the Last Generation issued a statement deflecting responsibility and accusing of hate speech those who said they were responsible for the ambulance not arriving on time. They also said they would continue their actions.

The life of motorists in Berlin, however, is turned into a nightmare not only by radical climate activists. Politics has also launched an outright war against car owners. When Bettina Jarasch was the German capital’s senator for transport, a huge number of parking spaces disappeared, and motorists have to pay horrendous fees for those that remained.

Besides, the governing Greens have converted busier roads into one-lane avenues, consigning one lane to cyclists. The Greens went even further, introducing a red wave – instead of a green wave – at the traffic lights.
