Energy-gobbling Commissioner in new tantrum

Frans Timmermans is attending the UN Climate Summit as the EU's representative. In between the talks, the commissioner, himself a reckless waster of energy, has expressed his utter frustration.

At the global conference which began on 6 November, EU Commissioner Frans Timmermans failed to achieve the results that he wanted, and he was swift to express his disappointment. Too little is being done for climate protection, even though „we must ensure that global warming is limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius,” he told the press. He also warned that the EU is ready to withdraw from climate talks if no satisfactory outcome is achieved, however, he noted that „it is better to have no results” than a „bad result.”

The European Union knows full well that if it wants to be successful in climate protection, it must not forget the need to maintain mitigation levels, the EU Commissioner told the conference, adding that he would personally be curious to see what others would do in their countries to make this happen.

„In any case, we are going to increase our efforts to reduce energy consumption, because I think this is an essential element, as is the acceleration of our transition to renewable energy sources,”

said Mr Timmermans, who was recently exposed by V4NA. The European Commission’s Vice-President for Green Policy has previously called on Europeans to switch to renewable energy sources as soon as possible. But such private investments are costly, while nowadays many households are faced with a stark choice of having to prioritise when it comes to paying their bills or buying food.

The EU elite has come up with a solution to this: people should consume less gas, Mr Timmermans said recently, adding that in the short term, energy saving could be the solution to the current high prices.

People should heat much less and showering should be kept to a minimum, the commissioner pointed out. In his view, it is not always necessary for clothes to be washed, as it’s sometimes enough to just air them. He also asked motorists to cycle instead, arguing that they could help Europe to decrease its dependence on Russian energy carriers.

However, few people know that Frans Timmermans’ luxury villa is just an hour and a half’s drive from Brussels, which shows that the vice-president in charge of green policy drinks wine and preaches water.

Built in 1937, the vice president’s multi-storey villa – boasting 12 rooms in total – looks like a hotel at first glance. The building has a “G” energy label, one of the lowest ratings according to the EU’s efficiency standards. It means the occupants of the property use so much energy that it could have been destined for demolition in certain European states. Thus, while being a huge consumer of energy and electricity, Mr Timmermans demands that people switch to renewable sources with immediate effect, something unaffordable for the average citizen. In the meantime, he did not bother upgrading his home with solar collectors or improve its energy efficiency in any other way.

He bought his house for some half a million euros 12 years ago and its value now possibly exceeds 1 million euros. Earlier, when he used to live in Terveuren near Brussels he had the habit of sharing photos about a house boasting a handsome swimming pool, which must have cost a lot of energy to maintain.
