Expressways deemed racist by Biden administration

US President Joe Biden has earmarked 20 billion dollars for his infrastructure development program which involves the demolition of highways for being racist.

The Biden administration picked two routes of priority for itself. One is the Claiborne Expressway in New Orleans, and the other is Interstate 81 in Syracuse, New York. The government wants to address, these two examples of „long-standing and persistent racial injustice” in infrastructure.

According to the plan put forward by Joe Biden, billions will be spent on dismantling existing highways and „promoting racial equity and environmental justice” through „new projects” to „reconnect neighbourhoods.”

„Structural racism and persistent economic inequities have undermined opportunity for millions of workers,” the plan reads.

The idea is not new, last year Biden s current Secretary of Transport Pete Buttigieg tweeted, „Black and brown neighborhoods have been disproportionately divided by highway projects or left isolated by the lack of adequate transit and transportation resources.

However, many have criticised Biden s plan. Tucker Carlson on Fox News pointed out the fact that highways are being demolished rather than being built.

„Expect a lot more highways to meet this fate. People who believe highways are racist will get tens of billions of dollars as part of this plan, as long as they re in what the Biden administration calls underserved communities, ” as he put it.

Incidently, Buttigieg was recently caught showing just how truly environmentally friendly and a proponent of bicycle riding he really is when footage was leaked of him driving a car on the way to work, and doing only the final stretch of distance by bike.

Not long ago, the secretary came under fire for suggesting that a drivers pay a tax on the miles they drive in a bid to fund infrastructure improvements.
