The illegal migrant ship scandal is far greater than anybody realises, Nigel Farage, leader of the Brexit Party said. He explained the media tried to sweep this problem under the carpet and the statistics it has shared show only a tiny little part of reality. Failing to act fast, the British basically imported coronavirus into the country.

First it was the Times to report on the influx of hundreds of illegal immigrants to the UK, despite the lockdown due to coronavirus. According to the Home Office, 550 migrants crossed the English Channel on boats between March and April leaving France behind, however, the article points out that this number excludes those, who were caught by the French Coast Guard on the French side.

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage also emphasized that this scandal, which he attributed to the failure of British border protection, is much bigger than anyone would have thought, as the Home Office s figures only represent the migrants caught daylight, and who knows how many landed under cover of darkness.

He also pointed out that human smuggling works so well that not only can „passengers” land on the shores, but smugglers can also rescue their ships. He added that although official figures report only 550 people, it is not known whether they have been sent back to France.

According to the Times s article, the border guard was also worried that they would not be able to control the coronavirus infection of the detained immigrants, as the virus has a latency of two weeks, and anyone arriving by boat freezes on the way and produces all the symptoms of a flu.

On Thursday, Farage said that if the case is finally investigated, everyone will see „that we allowed ourselves to import this disease and the British government did nothing.” He said countless British citizens living on the beach had approached him to ensure the situation was indeed worse than the numbers showed and there has been a „wall-to-wall media silence on this.”

„There s only one way to deal with it,” he said, recalling the rules of the former Australian prime minister Tony Abbott s immigration model, which states that anyone who comes to Australia illegally will not be given refugee status and not be allowed to stay. He believes the current British system does not work effectively, therefore, „there is a very, very strong incentive for people to pay these criminal gangs because virtually everybody gets to stay.”
