Hungarian-Polish joint success painful for George Soros s ally

Sociologist Maria Vasarhelyi, one of the people most strongly committed to George Soros in Hungary, took to Facebook to post her litany of complaints over the deal Hungary and Poland successfully reached in the debate on the EU budget.

Hungary and Poland has succeeded in upholding their position in the debate on the EU budget. Chancellor Angela Merkel accepted the conditions proposed by Hungary s Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki. The deal will be presented to other member states at the EU summit on Thursday still under Germany s EU presidency. If the preliminary compromise is backed by all other member states, the possibility of trying to punish countries based on vague political conditions – especially regarding migration and gender issues – will be eliminated.

However, the compromise reached by Hungary, Poland, and Germany was not seen as a success by many. On Wednesday evening, left-wing Hungarian MEPs tried to present the Hungarian-Polish-German agreement as if the deal signalled their victory. Among others, Klara Dobrev, the wife of the ousted Socialist Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany, also spoke about a victory for the left.

George Soros, American stock market speculator, is one of the most reliable people in Hungary, posted Maria Vasarhelyi, in her rant on Facebook.

„If this is a victory, what would a defeat look like?” the left-wing commentator asks of the MEPs on her side of the divide.

According to the Hungarian portal Origo.hu, Vasarhelyi complains that Angela Merkel made an „unprincipled compromise” with Viktor Orban, whom she labels a dictator.

The portal also notes that the most interesting thing about the post is that the author herself points out – rebuking among others Ms Gyurcsany –  that Brussels will be unable to initiate any proceedings against Orban until 2022, and even then only regarding EU funds.

In closing, the apparently irate Vasarhelyi admits that the Hungarian opposition will not be able to defeat Fidesz in the elections, and that they were counting on Brussels to help in their battle for power. Since this was now thwarted, Maria Vasarhelyi considers Angela Merkel an accomplice in „digging the grave of European unity.”
