Jews reject nomitation of Soros s footsoldier

Jewish organisations are demanding the withdrawal of Sarah Margon’s nomination by US President Joe Biden for deputy secretary of the State Departments Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor. Ms Margon has numerous ties to US stock market speculator George Soros and has previously made anti-Israel statements.

US President Joe Biden has nominated Sarah Margon for deputy secretary of the State Departments Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor.

Margon began working as leader of foreign policy advocacy at the US branch of Soros s Open Society Foundations (OSF) in 2019. She has also worked at other organisations, most in Soros s sphere of interest.

Before OSF, she worked as the Washington director at Human Rights Watch (HRW). Earlier in her career, she was a political advisor at Oxfam America and also worked for the Center for American Progress. All three organisations enjoyed George Soros s generous support.

  • Human Rights Watch received 275 thousand dollars from OSF in 2018.
  • Oxfam America Action Fund was granted 425 thousand dollars in 2019.
  • The Center for American Progress pocketed 450 thousand dollars in 2019 from Soros s network.

Some say, however, that Sarah Margon is not a good choice for the role, because – earlier in her career –  she made some anti-Israel statements.

In its recently released a statement, the Republican Jewish Coalition says Sarah Margon has made her career at some of the most virulently anti-Israel organisations. They highlighted Human Rights Watch, which issued a report at the end of April, calling Israel „an apartheid state.”

„President Biden and Secretary Blinken claim to oppose the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, but now they want to install a supporter of Israel boycotts in a senior role,” the statement reads.

And indeed, Sarah Margon did welcome the boycotts in Israel back in her time at HRW. In 2018, she expressed appeasement on Twitter that the Airbnb flat rental service had removed listings in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and called on other companies to follow Airbnb s example.

In 2016, she shared an article by the Time magazine, in which HRW urged companies to pull out of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
