Kids in Paris district need police escort to school, because of drug addicts – video

For years, the socialist city administration has been unable to cope with the drug problem. By now, the situation has escalated to a point where police officers are escorting students to school because of drug addicts and dealers in the area. The mayor of the district says that health facilities are needed, but the locals are not fond of the idea.

The residents of the 18th district in the north of Paris live their daily lives in constant fear, afraid of the local drug addicts and the dealers who keep them supplied. For years, the socialist city administration has been unable to tackle the problem. The only thing they do is moving drug addicts elsewhere from time to time, but they always end up coming back. The same happened recently, as V4NA has reported, with drug addicts and dealers flooding the streets at night. In one notorious case, a drug addict was seen shooting up in broad daylight on the street, in full view of passers-by.

Although authorities dismantled a drug den in Forceval Square in the north-east of the French capital in October, the situation was not resolved, as the drug addicts soon returned. Back to square one.

The presence of drug addicts and the dealers who supply them in the Porte d’Aubervilliers district has made the area so dangerous that parents are forced to send their children to school under police escort if they want them to get there safely. Officers of the municipal police are on duty day and night.

Although the police escort provides a sense of relief to the parents, their children can still witness scenes that they shouldn’t. There are many drug addicts around the district’s Charles-Hermites square. A parent living nearby said that their children were being taken to school by bus before the autumn break, but the service was cancelled, so the kids can now witness some unwanted scenes, for instance couples having sex on the street. The addicts may become violent, as they are typically unable to control their actions under the influence of drugs.

BFMTV’s reporter accompanied a mother and her children on their way to school. The police escort is clearly visible in the recording, along with the people lying or staggering along the walkway in a state of intoxication.

Eric Lejoindre, the mayor of the 18th district, also commented on the situation. He said the conflicts between locals and drug addicts are resolved in many countries by setting up health institutions to provide adequate assistance to the addicts. The situation would greatly improve if there were enough health centres to take care of the huge number of drug addicts present in the area, he said.

Locals, however, do not want to hear about this. A local association called Stop Crack Eole wrote on Twitter that they don’t want centres in the district where drug addicts can shoot themselves up. They addressed their message to the Paris police chief, the interior minister, the head of state and the prime minister. The association added that they have already suffered enough.
