69 per cent of those asked believe that Mr Macron’s current presidential term is a bad thing for France, according to the findings of a survey conducted by the Elabe Institute for BFMTV. Disapproval increased by 14 percentage points compared to the last such survey a year ago. By contrast, a mere 30 per cent of the French perceive Mr Macron’s second term as a „good thing”, while 1 per cent were undecided.

Asked about their view of the French president’s actions, respondents most frequently used the term „disagreement” (44 per cent), followed by „disappointment” (42 per cent) and by „anger” and „hostility” (39 and 26 per cent respectively).

Nearly a quarter of the voters who supported Emmanuel Macron in the first round of the presidential election, and 40 per cent of those who voted for him in the second round against Marine Le Pen, find his presidency „disappointing”.

The French president’s second term in office has been marred by serious scandals. Particularly huge public outcry was triggered by his government’s move to bypass the vote in parliament on the extremely unpopular pension reform, which would gradually increase French retirement age from 62 to 64 over the next seven years.

Emmanuel Macron won his second term in office last April by defeating the right-wing rival, securing 58.5 per cent of the votes against Marine Le Pen, who gained 41.5 per cent. However, another recent survey by Elabe showed that the French president would clearly lose to Ms Le Pen if the election were held today. The right-wing party leader would win 55 per cent of the votes while Mr Macron would secure 45 per cent, according to the survey’s findings.
