For the first time in ten years, the number of students in vocational training has increased slightly in Austria, according to recent statistics. At the end of 2018, 107,915 students were registered, a year earlier they were 1,300 fewer. Part of the reason for this increase is the students preference for dual training.

Two thirds of students start their studies at the age of 15 or 16 while six per cent are 21 or older.

Thirteen per cent of students completed primary education, 15 per cent have completed vocational school, and one-third went to technical school.

According to the report, 16 per cent of students in vocational training drops out. More than one-third (33%) of non-Austrian students do not complete school, while 13% of Austrian students do not obtain the qualification.
