Parliament will rescind the state of emergency, but this will not affect the virus, so although the special legal order is no longer needed, we must maintain epidemiological preparedness, PM Viktor Orban told Hungary s public radio on Friday. As for the country, this means that the Operative Board will continue in its function until a vaccine is developed, to ensure that Hungary is prepared for a potential second wave of the pandemic.

„We ve seved the lives of thousands of elderly people, and we shouldn t be risking our achievements out of sheer irresponsiblility”, Mr Orban said.

He stressed that the citizens disciplined behaviour, compassion and exemplary compliance with rules – coupled with swift government decisions – was worth more than money, adding that, as a result, „we have won the first battle.”

PM Orban pointed out that the government has already saved a million jobs and is constantly working to create new ones. However, it does not want to remedy unemployment with aid, but with opportunities. He added that the suspension of credit repayments was also a special success that meant a huge help to people with lower incomes. He stressed that the credit moratorium was a big burden on the banks that are trying to resist, but if there is a strong government with national support and a strong voter support base, and the government has national sentiments, than we can take on the financial capitalists of the world and reach reasonable agreements with them.

Viktor Orban said Hungary was a strengthening and victorious country, and it would remain one in the future. „Speaking on belhalf of Hungarians, I can say that although we lost the 20th century, we will win the 21st century,” he said.

He concluded the interview by underlining that „We are a strengthening nation looking for partners for a successful future.”
