At a campaign event of the Hungarian Jobbik party, the driver and the bodyguard of party chief Peter Jakab attacked a passer-by walking his dog. The bdyguard pushed the man to the ground using a chokehold. The Hungarian newspaper Ripost has obtained the video of the incident taken by a pedestrian.

The violent act was reported to police and the records state that the perpetrator is Mr Jakab’s bodyguard and driver, the newspaper says, adding that police are running inquiries to determine the circumstances of the incident.

Jobbik leader Peter Jakab, who is also the party’s prime ministerial candidate, reacted to the incident on his social media account. He wrote that the “dude” had kicked his colleague. According to him, the staff member in charge of event’s security was just “doing his job.” “This is how you deal with troublemakers,” Peter Jakab wrote in his post.

However, Ripost has published a video to expose that Mr Jakab lied when he claimed that the man applying the chokehold was a staff member in charge of the campaign event’s security.

The video shows that the man in question appears at several of Mr Jakab’s campaign events, „following the party chief like a shadow. He is clearly not a member of the local security staff, but Peter Jakab’s personal bodyguard,” Ripost writes.

The bodyguard who acted aggressively is even featured in one of the prime ministerial candidate’s campaign photos.

Thus, it was Mr Jakab’s very own Facebook account which proved that he had lied.

The incident has provoked strong reactions in Hungary because Mr Jakab likes to refer to himself as an ordinary man, one of the common people. However, several commenters have pointed out that ordinary people are not escorted by bodyguards.

This is not the first time Peter Jakab has been caught lying during his campaign. At another public forum, he posted a video in which a woman talks about having to relocate to a different country because she cannot make ends meet in Hungary. However, it was soon revealed that this was most likely a staged conversation, as the woman featured in the video had previously run as an MP candidate for Jobbik.

It only made matters worse when it turned out that the former candidate posing as an impoverished woman had just returned from a ten-day seaside vacation ahead of Jakab’s public forum.
