Soros organisations want to pick defence minister

Michèle Flournoy is expected to become defence secretary in the Biden administration, but some progressive, left-wing organisations backed by stock market speculator George Soros cannot decide whether or not to support her appointment. Flournoy’s own organisation has also received significant grants from the Open Society Foundations.

US President-elect Joe Biden has already named his nominees for several key positions, but he has yet to make a decision on his new defense minister. His favourite is Michèle Flournoy, but some far-left organisations have indicated their reservations.

Representatives of several progressive NGOs held an online conference on Wednesday to discuss the issue. In the invitation, they said the purpose of the conference was to discuss coordination efforts to make recommendations regarding the foreign policy staff of the Biden administration. The meeting was attended by several organisations that enjoy George Soros s funding.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) was formed in 2008 by two employees of MoveOn.org, an NGO that received generous sopport from the Open Society Foundations (OSF). In 2010, Soros Fund Management provided 8 thousand dollars in funding to the PCCC, while in 2012, the stock market speculator transferred 5 thousand dollars along with his son, Jonathan Soros.

According to the OSF s website, Center for International Policy received nearly 350 thousand dollars from Soros s foundation in 2018.

The organisation has a programme called Win Without War (WWW), which was also represented at the online conference. This is a public education and advocacy coalition in Washington, with at least 37 member organisations including MoveOn.org. Some of the grants given by Soros to the Center for International Policy had to be spent specifically on WWW. The programme received 50 thousand dollars in 2018 and 250 thousand dollars in 2017.

The discussion was attended by Matt Duss, Senator Bernie Sander s top foreign policy advisor, who has links to Joe Biden s transition team. Duss contributed as a blogger to the activities of the Center for American Progress, again an organisation funded by George Soros. Earlier, 48-year-old Duss used to promote anti-Israeli views, according to the Washington Free Beacon news site.

The participants at the conference were divided as to whether to support or oppose Michele Flournoy s candidacy.

Flournoy has worked for the Defence Department in multiple Democratic administrations. Organisations opposed to her nomination don t like the fact that she co-founded WestExec Advisers, a consulting firm that does business with tech and defence companies. As a point of interest, WestExec was co-founded by Antony Blinken, whom Biden named as his next state secretary.

Michele Flournoy also belongs to Soros s network. In 2007, she co-founded an organisation called the Center for a New American Security. According to OSF s website, Flournoy s think tank was awarded more than 1 million dollars in grants between 2016 and 2018.

Joe Biden s team is full of George Soros s trusted allies. Two members of the new White House communications team have come from organisations supported by the stock market speculator, just like the head of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
