Zoophilia and bestiality may spread in Spain

A change in the animal welfare law and the penal code will create an interesting loophole. The draft bills allow people, at least in principle, to satisfy their sexual desires on animals, provided that no injury is caused to the animal.

A recent decision by lawmakers has triggered a general outcry in Spain. The lower house of parliament recently voted to amend the animal welfare law and some points of the penal code, changing some controversial aspects of the legal text and thus causing deep divisions. Until now, Spanish law strictly prohibited zoophilia on domesticated, farmed or wild animals. Zoophilia is a person’s sexual attraction to animals, while bestiality – or sodomy – is the actual sexual contact between humans and animals.

Thanks to the amendment to the law, legal obstacles to zoophilia and bestiality have been removed, as the new text says that

outside of legally regulated activities, a person who by any means or procedure, including acts of a sexual nature, causes an injury to a vertebrate animal that requires veterinary treatment to restore its health will be punishable with a prison sentence of three to eighteen months and with a special prohibition from one to five years from practicing an occupation, trade or business related to animals, as well as from keeping animals„.

Thus, under the new law, sexual acts on animals that do not require veterinary intervention do not qualify as a crime.

This is just one of the controversial aspects of the draft bill that would see people sentenced to prison if, for example, they were to kill a rodent entering their home. After the vote, Ivan Espinosa de los Monteros, an MP of the conservative Vox party, noted that the law in force in Spain today clearly states that sexual intercourse requires the voluntary consent of both parties. The right-wing politician asked his fellow left-wing lawmakers a question in this regard:

„I’m curious to find out if Podemos members have thought about how to obtain consent from hens, donkeys or other animals with whom anyone would like to have sex?

As the new law needs Senate approval in order to enter into force, some conservatives hope that senators will amend it with this in view. This is, however, improbable, as the leftist-separatist coalition has the majority of the mandates in the upper house (just as in the lower house). We do not have to go far from Spain to find another European country where similar measures are demanded. In Germany, the proponents of bestiality held a large street demonstration a few months ago, demanding sexual attraction to, and intercourse with animals to be made legal.

Some demonstrators said that the reason they took to the street was that they found it much simpler to engage in a sexual intercourse with animals than with humans. Some countries even built an industry on zoophilia and bestiality. Up until a few years ago, many people travelled to Serbia for sex at ‘animal brothels.’ Online adverts offered animal sex from between 100 and 150 euros. Visitors had to pay extra to film themselves.

The Spanish bill has provoked strong reactions across Europe. Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro was among the most vocal critics of the leftist proposal.

Leftism is a plague of the 21st century. The Spanish allowed children to change their sex on demand. Now they are legalizing zoophilia. The leftist virus is doing the rounds in our country, too,

the minister wrote on Twitter.

With his message shared on social media, Mr Ziobro reacted to the fact that the leftist government majority has adopted another radical proposal in parliament. The new laws made it easier for transgender people to undergo gender reassignment surgery and to have access to abortion, while also introducing the possibility of menstrual leave. In Spain, adult men have so far been only able to request a sex change following detailed medical reports and proven hormone treatments. For those under 18, the procedure was even more complex, and required judicial supervision.

The new law, however, has liberalised this procedure. Minors over 16 can apply for gender reassignment surgery without parental consent or medical checks. Minors aged between 14 and 16 can apply for a sex change accompanied by their parents or other legal representative. Even children aged 12 to 14 can request a sex change, although this will still require a court approval.
