From 2 pm on Thursday, crude oil deliveries to Hungary through the Friendship pipeline are once again stable, the MOL Group (Hungarian Oil and Gas Public Limited Company) confirmed the information published by the Hungarian vg.hu economic portal. The pipeline – which supplies nearly all Hungary’s crude oil imports – was shut down after a transformer powering it was hit by a missile on the Belarus-Ukraine border.

After the technical repairs were completed, oil deliveries resumed on Wednesday at low pressure.

“Hungary’s energy security was not at risk even during the hours without delivery … as Hungary has sufficient reserves to prevent such outages from jeopardising the security of energy supplies,” Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto underlined.

In addition to the Hungarian strategic reserve of three months, the country’s refineries usually have a 30-day reserve to ensure smooth operation, so the current shutdown has not caused any major disruption to fuel supply, the Hungarian Vilaggazdasag news portal wrote.
