White Spaniards Suffer Most from Racism in Spain
A government-funded study, intended to highlight the rise of racism in Spain, has found that the most discriminated group is actually white Spaniards.
Despite Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s socialist government aiming to draw attention to the challenges faced by minority groups, the report reveals that people of Mediterranean white origin suffer the most discrimination.
The Ministry of Equality commissioned the study for €113,000, of which €108,420 went to the consulting firm Red2Red, and an additional €4,499.93 was spent on presenting the results during Anti-Racism Week held in March. The study, titled El impacto del racismo en España („The Impact of Racism in Spain”), is based on over 2,200 face-to-face interviews conducted in 2024 and aimed to provide an accurate picture of racial and ethnic discrimination in the country, according to The European Conservative news outlet.
As they highlighted:
To the government’s surprise, the results show that 33.9% of white Mediterranean respondents reported experiencing unequal treatment from local public administration service departments. ByIn comparison, 25.2% of Afro- and Latin Americans, 22.9% of Roma, and 19.6% of Africans reported similar experiences.
One of the most significant methodological changes in this edition of the study was replacing phone interviews with in-person ones, which improved the reliability of the data collected. While the Spanish government had hoped the study would support its narrative about structural racism and the marginalization of minority groups, the results tell a different story.
Migrants Are Privileged in Spain
In Spain—just like in other Western European countries—a growing number of people are noticing that migrants often enjoy more rights, benefits, and entitlements than local citizens. A recent incident in domestically has drawn significant attention.
A four-star wellness hotel near Malaga, known for its luxury and natural tranquility, was temporarily converted into a reception center for about one hundred illegal immigrants.
The Spanish government reserved the entire hotel as emergency accommodation, meaning it is no longer accepting regular guests. Local residents were further outraged by the fact that they had not been informed in advance about the hotel’s change in function.
The conservative VOX party also responded to the situation with the following comment:
“While the people of Malaga are in crisis and unable to buy or rent a home, illegal immigrants who cross the border receive full accommodation and care.”
The party’s regional branch accused the government of ignoring the needs of Spanish citizens—which is particularly concerning given the housing shortage and economic difficulties. They also pointed out that violence is increasing due to immigration.

Esta es la inseguridad a la que los malagueños han sido condenados por culpa de las irresponsables políticas del PP y PSOE. https://t.co/RtV4idzKUm pic.twitter.com/ZeB8OvxjZI
