ISIS Wife Convicted in Sweden of Crimes Against Humanity

An Iraqi woman, Lina Ishaq — referred to by Swedish media as the “ISIS wife in Sweden” — has been convicted for keeping women and children as slaves in Syria under the rule of the Islamic State. Ishaq, who is now a Swedish citizen, was sentenced to twelve years in prison for genocide, crimes against humanity and serious war crimes. The ruling is of historic significance, marking the first time a Swedish citizen has been convicted of such crimes.

Lina Ishaq was sentenced two years ago to six years in prison for serious violations of international law and grave war crimes. She has now been found guilty of additional crimes committed during the existence of the so-called Islamic State caliphate.

At the time, Ishaq allowed her son to serve as a child soldier — or rather, a terrorist — in the ranks of the Islamic State.

The ISIS wife is currently serving her sentence at the Hinseberg prison near Orebro. The main focus of the new case concerns her keeping of slaves in Raqqa, the self-proclaimed capital of the Islamic State, where she moved after leaving Halmstad. According to court documents, between 2014 and 2016 Ishaq imprisoned three women and six children in her home.

The woman deprived several Yazidi women and children of their freedom, forcing many of them to do housework, take part in religious education and prayer — all within the slavery system enforced by the Islamic State,

– according to the Swedish Samnytt news portal.

Lina Ishaq was originally from Iraq. Her family were Christian refugees who arrived in Sweden in the early 1980s. She obtained Swedish citizenship in 1984. However, Ishaq later converted to Islam after meeting a young Muslim man in his twenties. The couple left Sweden in 2004 and moved between several countries, living in the United Kingdom, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt.

When the Islamic State declared its caliphate, the family relocated to Syria to join the Islamist fight. Her husband was killed there shortly afterwards. Around the same time, Ishaq’s teenage sons were recruited as child soldiers in the service of Allah.

Mass Immigration, Parallel Societies, Rising Crime

The case of the “Swedish ISIS wife” has caused a major public outcry in Sweden, as crime levels have risen dramatically in the once peaceful and welcoming Scandinavian nation. As the international V4NA news agency has repeatedly reported, mass migration has created an unmanageable situation — and the latest statistics show no signs of improvement. While Germany, with a population that’s eight times bigger (84.7 million), recorded 65 gun-related deaths last year, Sweden — with a population of just 10.56 million — saw 53 such deaths in the same period, and 62 in 2022. Compared to Austria, which has a similar population (9.2 million) and only eight gun deaths last year, Sweden’s murder rate is shockingly high.

The overall crime rate also paints an equally grim picture:

in Germany, there are around 7,000 reported crimes per 100,000 inhabitants each year, while in Sweden the figure stands at 14,100 — almost exactly double.

Although most crimes in Sweden are concentrated in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo — the country’s three largest cities — the fact remains that,

in terms of crime, Sweden is now the most affected country in Europe and among the most dangerous at its hotspots — surpassing Serbia, Albania and Lithuania.

For comparison: twenty-five years ago, Sweden recorded around twenty gun-related deaths annually, according to the Nius news portal.
