Canadian Conservatives Advocate for Stringent Measures Against Immigrants

At the national congress of the Conservative Party of Canada in Calgary, an overwhelming majority of delegates supported a policy advocating for the immediate deportation of migrants who commit serious crimes in Canada. They also called for these individuals to receive a permanent ban on re-entry and urged the confiscation of assets from foreign criminals who are forced to leave the country.

Currently, these criminals typically serve their sentences in Canada before facing deportation proceedings.

The vast majority of participants supported stricter immigration rules, particularly concerning a „more comprehensive screening” of prospective newcomers. They agreed on the need for „border security reform” and a transformation of the asylum system.

Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party, claims that separatist movements have „revived” under liberal leadership. However, he argues that a Conservative government would unite the country and provide the „hopeful future that Canadians deserve.”

Canadian opinion polls indicate that citizens are becoming increasingly skeptical about immigration statistics. This has led federal government websites to emphasize the necessity of tightening border controls and addressing the strain on the immigration system.

„Willkommenskultur” Canadian Style: Government Promotes Migrant Integration via Social Media

Prime Minister Mark Carney is employing systematic and restrained methods to reduce migration, yet his efforts may not necessarily yield the desired results.

Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau aimed to welcome a record number of permanent and temporary residents into the country. During Trudeau’s administration, the social media channels of the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship were filled with messages about the various ways the country embraces newcomers.

Bill C-12, legislation aimed at strengthening Canada’s immigration system and borders, was recently passed in the House of Commons. However, Ottawa’s stricter regulations and lower targets primarily affect international students, asylum seekers, and the parents and grandparents of immigrant families.

In 2024, there was a sudden increase in the number of foreign students applying for refugee status. The number of study permits issued in the first three quarters of 2025 remained significant at 299,000. Under the International Mobility Program (IMP), 375,000 work permits were issued, while new applications for asylum totaled 90,000.

Despite the reduction in migration targets for 2025, Ottawa still has much work to do to achieve them.
