The new Superman film recently hit theaters, but many believe this Superman is far from the one they remember. Critics are accusing the creators of turning the iconic character into a tool of woke propaganda.

In a Fox News segment the film was dubbed „Superwoke” while guest commentator Kellyanne Conway said,

“We don’t go to the movie theater to be lectured to and to have somebody throw their ideology onto us.”

Dean Cain, the actor who previously played Superman, also criticized the new film, particularly the political reinterpretation of the character:

„How woke is Hollywood going to make this character?”

he asked, also taking point with the scrapping of the film’s classic motto: „Truth, Justice and the American Way”. Cain insists changing beloved characters is not a good idea.

“Superman has always represented the American way of life. If we don’t want that anymore, then we should create a new hero.”

Cain was particularly outraged by comments from director James Gunn, who described the film as a symbol of immigration—a statement that led many to label this new Superman as “woke.”

“I think bringing Superman into it … I think that was a mistake by James Gunn to say it’s an immigrant thing, and I think it’s going to hurt the numbers on the movie. I was excited for the film. I am excited to see what it is … I’m rooting for it to be a success, but I don’t like that last political comment,” Cain said.

Film Director Defends Immigrants
James Gunn’s brother, Sean Gunn, also spoke out, firmly defending immigrants while emphasizing that in the new Superman film, the hero is indeed an immigrant, and he sees no problem with that. In response to the backlash, he said,

“That’s exactly what the film is about. “We support our people, you know? We love our immigrants. Yes, Superman is an immigrant, and yes, the people that we support in this country are immigrants and if you don’t like that, you’re not American. People who say no to immigrants are against the American way,” he added.

Viewers Are Outraged

The film has received negative reactions not only from critics but also from audiences. Many have taken to social media to express their anger over the new portrayal of the character and the political ideology that the creators are attempting to push through Superman.
