The German government has used public funds to support an organization that equates right-wing ideology with extremism

The German government is now distancing itself from the content of a taxpayer-funded brochure by a Düsseldorf association, which criticizes right-wing extremists who oppose democracy. However, they will continue to support the left-wing NGO.

In a guide published in January about working with young people, the term „right-wing” is equated with „far-right.” The document explicitly states: „The right is shorthand for right-wing extremism, right-wing populism, or the far right. Other terms used include right-wing radicalism, right-wing terrorism, rightward shift, or new right.”

This is how the publication defines „the right,” which is supported by the German Ministry of Family Affairs, as indicated in its imprint.

In response to an inquiry from the German investigative portal NIUS, the ministry stated that it does not wish to engage with the content of the publication.

„The publication’s portrayal of the term ‘right-wing’ as synonymous with far-right, right-wing nationalist, right-wing radical, and fascist expressions does not align with the stance of the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth,” stated the ministry’s spokesperson. The spokesperson emphasized that the ministry „advocates for a resilient democracy and opposes all forms of extremism—be it right-wing, left-wing, anti-Semitic, or religiously motivated.”

Karin Prien’s (CDU) ministry has admitted that it does not review the content of these publications, even though its logo appears on the copyright notice.

„The content of publications by supported organizations is not subject to verification,” the ministry stated.

Nevertheless, Karin Prien’s ministry intends to increase funding this year for the NGO responsible for the publication’s content.

„The federal budget for the Antiracist Information and Documentation Centre (IDA) for 2026 includes a planned grant of €330,364,” the ministry announced. In 2025, the association received approximately €300,000 from the ministry.

Is Being Right-Wing Equivalent to Misanthropy? – Shocking Statements from a Left-Wing NGO Publication

In January 2026, the Information and Documentation Centre released a report titled „Strong Against the Right: Youth Organizations Countering Right-Wing Influence,” which argued that young people should be „encouraged” to „clearly stand against the right.”

The publication provides German youth organizations with guidance on „how to address the right-wing tendencies of their members from an educational perspective” and „how to prevent the recruitment of right-wing members, as well as exclude those who hold right-wing views.”

The authors of the document further claim: „The right is a broad term that encompasses ideas prioritizing the rights of the stronger over individual equality and fails to acknowledge the human dignity of minorities and the vulnerable.” According to the authors, anyone who identifies as right-wing is a misanthrope: „By now, every person voting for a right-wing party knows what they are doing and is aware of their misanthropic stance.”

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) is specifically mentioned in the document as a „leading right-wing populist and far-right party.” A few sentences later, it states: „Right-wing populists blame BIPoC*, migrants, refugees, and Jews for social crises.”
