In the Netherlands, seven suspects have been detained, while counter-terrorism police in London are investigating, and military personnel are now guarding institutions in Belgium. Public sources also support the existence of networks linked to Hezbollah in Europe, with connections tracing back to Iran.

The attack on the synagogue in Rotterdam was not merely an „incident.” The Dutch prosecution has classified the case as a terrorist act, aimed at instilling fear. On March 27, three more suspects were arrested in the Netherlands, bringing the total number of detainees related to the Rotterdam attack to seven. An 18-year-old was also arrested for allegedly preparing a similar attack against a synagogue in Heemstede.

David van Weel, the Dutch Minister of Justice, openly stated that they are investigating possible Iranian involvement. He also indicated that the young suspects were likely recruited. There are many indications pointing to local operatives and potential background controllers, according to Exxpress.

Europol has also warned about the implications of Iran-related escalation for Europe. According to Reuters, authorities perceive an increased threat from groups within the „axis of resistance,” ranging from terrorism to intimidation and cyberattacks.
Violent incidents have also occurred in London. Four ambulances belonging to the Hatzola Jewish emergency service were set ablaze. Security camera footage shows three masked perpetrators. Later, two men were arrested, and the investigation has been taken over by the counter-terrorism police.

Reuters further reported that this incident fits into a broader pattern of potential threats reported by Iran: just weeks earlier, four men in the UK were suspected of spying for Iranian services on locations and individuals connected to the Jewish community in London. Ken McCallum, head of MI5, mentioned in October 2025 that there were over 20 planned attacks supported by Iran.
Belgium is responding with military protection. Following the attacks in Liège and other incidents in Belgium and the Netherlands, soldiers have been deployed to guard Jewish institutions in Brussels and Antwerp.

Liège will follow suit later. In Antwerp, two minors were detained following an alleged anti-Semitic arson attack. Reuters interprets these incidents as part of a broader series occurring in Belgium, the Netherlands, and the UK.
