Berlin Organises Drag Festival, With Programmes for Children
Using taxpayers’ money, the city of Berlinis supporting a summer drag festival where men dressed as women invite audiences to erotic shows, while children are also being welcomed to attend the programme.
The event, called “Queens & Flowers”, is scheduled to take place on 23 August at Berlin’s Botanical Garden. It is supported by the Berlin Senate’s Department for Economics and Energy, as was revealed on the festival’s promotional posters. Among the events listed is a programme specifically aimed at children. According to the advertisements, one of the participants will be the drag queen “Tessa Testicle”, whose Instagram page contains provocative photographs.

On the Botanical Garden’s website the following text appears:
“At the popular drag queen reading hour (from 3.30pm) to take place on the lawn, we’ll have drag queens read from children’s books; and we’ll have family tours in the greenhouses, as well as interactive programmes for children and much more.”

The posters highlight in several places that there will be programmes “for children”, as the wording explicitly states. Above this notice appear the names of the drag performers taking part in the summer festival.
There is huge outrage
The matter and the event have provoked huge outrage. On social media, both the Botanical Garden hosting the festival and the Berlin city leadership came under sharp criticism.
Julian Reichert, a German media personality, described the affair as state-funded paedophilia and called on Mayor Kai Wegner to “put an end to this disgusting madness.”
