Vienna is rolling out a new vaccination campaign in an effort to increase the number of inoculated. The Austrian capital has adopted the strategy of taking the jabs to places that people frequently visit, the news outlet Wien.orf writes. As the next step, vaccination stations will be set up in front of select supermarkets and even directly at the checkouts inside – initially in three districts, Vienna Health Councillor Peter Hacker (SPO) said.

Vaccination buses stopping at summer schools

The number of administered vaccines is steadily increasing in Austria thanks to vaccine buses travelling to different locations as part of a recent initiative by the Austrian government. No registration is required for jabs at mobile stations. The campaign is primarily aimed at inoculating the younger generation and thus vax buses have appeared at summer schools. Schoolchildren from the age of 12 are are eligible for vaccines on the buses, although those under 14 need parental consent. The stops of the vaccination buses are regularly updated and added to the bus tour schedule. Regular schools will be added as of early September. 41 per cent of those aged between 12 and 24 have received the first dose, while 47 per cent of them are fully immunised.

Current situation

The vaccination rate among young people is below the national average. According to information published by the Ministry of Health, 5,464,437 people (61.17% of the total population) have received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine, and 5,152,919 of them (57.69%) have full immunity, that is, two doses.
