Currently, nearly 150,000 people are wanted under arrest warrants in Germany, the majority of whom hold foreign passports, with only 12 percent being German citizens, as revealed in the federal government’s response to a written question by AfD lawmaker Sebastian Munzenmaier. The data was published by NIUS the news portal.

„As of 1 April, 2025, the INPOL-Z database contained 148,515 individuals with active, unexecuted arrest warrants,” read the statement issued by Germany’s federal interior ministry. INPOL-Z is the central information system used by German police.

Over half of the existing warrants target individuals from ten nationalities. Among those wanted, 17,413 hold German citizenship. As is known, no record is kept regarding the migration background of those holding a German passport. Following them are Romanians (16,367), Poles (12,968), Georgians (7,309), and Turks (6,356).

A total of 88.3 per cent of arrest warrants are issued against foreign nationals.

The majority of these migrants come from EU states, not from countries eligible for asylum. “Germany has a massive problem with crime committed by foreigners,” Munzenmaier, politician from the AfD, told NIUS regarding the figures.

„This is evident not only in every German prison but also in the outstanding arrest warrants. This makes it even more important to closely monitor who comes into our country and who we allow to enter,” he stated, adding that „the Schengen visa must not become a security risk.”

Another startling figure emerged: German security authorities are currently searching for approximately 656,000 people in total. In its written response, the interior ministry explained that „the INPOL-Z system issues alerts for various purposes, including executing arrests, locating missing persons, or placing individuals under police surveillance.” Only 15 per cent of these cases involve German passport holders.

Munzenmaier made several proposals to address the issue:

  • revoke residency permits for criminals;
  • strip dual nationals of German citizenship if warranted;
  • impose travel bans on criminals; and
  • deport offenders immediately, cut their social benefits, and require them to serve prison sentences in their home countries.

“The black-red coalition’s dream of turning Germany into an ‘immigrant country’ will unfortunately ensure we remain the Mecca for Europe’s criminals,” he stated.
