Macron lobbying with Alain Delon
Emmanuel Macron has also invited Alain Delon to Tuesday’s banquet organised in Xi Jinping and his wife s honour in Paris. During the two-day visit, the French head of state greeted China’s president in his office, with whom they discussed economical topics. Following the successful negotiations, Xi Jinping ordered airplanes from France for thirty billion euros.
Emmanuel Macron talked about an ambitious Euro-Chinese partnership at his joint press conference with Xi Jinping in the Elysee Palace on Monday evening.
The French President added that this partnership needed to be organised around a strong and efficient co-operation, which would be focused on climate and the protection of biodiversity.
The leaders of Western European countries frequently criticise the Southern and Eastern European countries that joined the New Silk Road initiative of China.
The Chinese President replied that a unified and prospering Europe fits into his vision of a multipolar world. Xi Jinping assured his country’s support of the European integrity and development, to which Macron said that development was indeed needed to balance the commercial and economic relations.
On the occasion of the president’s visit, China ordered around 290 pieces of Airbus A320-type and 10 pieces of A350-type airplanes from France for an amount of USD 35 billion (EUR 30 billion).
The leaders of the two countries continued their discussions on Tuesday morning, to which German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker were also invited.
At this meeting, the topics of trade regulations, environmental protection and the international investments are on agenda, since Paris believes that China has compromised the existing world order with its continuous infrastructural investments.
Also, Paris, along with Brussels and Berlin, often accuses Beijing of aiming to divide the European countries with its investment politics.
Xi Jinping thinks that, despite the competition, China and Europe “are going forward together”, and asked the parties not to base their relationships on “distrust”.
Tuesday’s meeting will be followed by a banquet, to which the most significant French businessmen, cultural and public figures, and celebrities, including movie star Alain Delon, are invited.
