Baby sleep expert faces backlash for supporting Trump

Making financial donations to Donald Trump s campaign was the only sin of a certified sleep consultant, who has helped many mothers with her online sleep courses. Once they found out, the owners of fellow parenting accounts launched a witch hunt against her, and urged users to unfollow her.

Boasting more than one million followers, the takingcarababies Instagram account is dedicated to helping mothers raise their children and offers them special advice on how to get their babies to sleep. Cara Dumaplin, the site s creator, is not only a mother herself but also a certified paediatric sleep consultant and neonatal nurse, and her training courses have helped thousands of mothers.

Cara is facing a backlash for donating money to Donald Trump s campaign. A host of fellow mommy accounts who had previously endorsed her sleep training courses have decided to turn their back on Cara and launched an attack against her, sharing unpleasant, derogatory posts about her.

One of the mom bloggers recommended her followers that they should consider unfollowing Cara and stop supporting her in future.

With a touch of hypocrisy, one parenting account wrote that – just a while ago – they found out that a fellow parenting account had been „accused of what looks like multiple financial contributions to the Trump campaign.” The owners of the feedinglittles account said they were still processing „all of this”, and are confused, because they had known Cara for years.

Dr Christine Sterling also wrote about Cara s case in an Instragram story. The gynaecologist spoke about Cara in past tense, saying that Cara had been her friend and mentor. Ms Sterling said she had made a lot of assumptions about her because of her kindness, but now she had learned her lesson and was very disappointed. She added that she held herself accountable and that she should have asked first. She so far as to apologise for recommending Cara and her business to others without first checking her background.

The Big Little Feelings account, which deals with mothers and parenting, also reported that Cara had supported Trump. They wrote that they had unfollowed Cara s account and even sent her a personal message. The moms behind Big Little Things wrote that they dreamt of a world where kids are treated equally, regardless of the colour of their skin.

Cara also issued a statement, writing that Taking Cara Babies was about helping babies get sleep. She added that she had made a series of donations between 2016 and 2019 to the Trump campaign, and that there were some aspects of the Trump administration that she agreed with, and some that she did not. She concluded her statement by writing that she „will continue to serve all parents by empowering them with the tools they need to help their babies sleep.”
