Americans under 40 are becoming increasingly less religious, a recent Rasmussen Reports survey finds. Less than half (48 per cent) of young Americans say they are religious, with 17 per cent saying they are „very religious,” according to Breitbart News.

„The percentage of adults under 40 who reported being very religious has decreased from 20 per cent measured two years ago. By comparison, 81 percent of people aged 65 and over consider themselves religious, including 35 percent who consider themselves very religious,”

the report reads. More men than women say they are religious, 61 per cent compared to 57 per cent, with women under 40 the most likely to say they are „not religious at all”, the survey found.

69% of Americans say they are religious, of whom 24% report being very religious, a figure that has not changed since October 2022. The survey polled 1935 American adults between 4-6 November. The margin of error is 2 percentage points with a 95 per cent confidence level.

The Rasmussen Reports survey is just the latest to show that young people are increasingly identifying as unreligious. According to a 2021 survey, while 57 per cent of those born between 1984 and 2002 profess to be Christians, 43 per cent „do not know, care or believe that God exists”.

A revealing survey in 2023 found that young people are less likely than older people to consider religion very important, 31 per cent compared to 55 per cent. According to the Gallup poll, young people and those on the left are the most likely to not believe in God.
