Americans fed up with Biden-Harris border policy
The majority of Americans not only oppose illegal immigration, but also want the government to send troops to secure the southern border.
According to a new poll by the Napolitan News Service, 84 per cent of registered voters believe that „illegal immigration is bad for the United States,” while only 12 per cent think it is good. The ratio of those opposing illegal immigration to those who support it „has remained roughly unchanged for decades,” the news service writes.
The vast majority of respondents, 71 per cent, said they support legal immigration because it is good for the country. „This view has also remained stable for decades. Voters make a clear distinction between legal and illegal immigration,” they write.
On illegal immigration, 49% of respondents cited crime as the main concern.
28 per cent of those asked say illegal immigration results in criminals and terrorists entering the country, and 26% say it puts additional strain on the economy and health care system. 16 per cent of Americans maintain that dangerous people are being let into the country along with the illegal immigrants and 5 per cent say illegal migration also brings illicit drugs and drug dealers.
„Overall, these numbers reflect that voters view America as both a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws,” said Scott Rasmussen, head of RMG Research, adding that
„Voters understand why most immigrants want to bring their families to the land of opportunity. But they are angry at the federal government for allowing and encouraging illegal immigration”.
In a separate poll, 75 per cent of respondents said they support sending US troops south „to fight drug cartels and secure the border”. „This has risen significantly since President Joe Biden took office, with 90 per cent of Republicans and 62 per cent of Democrats agreeing overall,” Napolitan News Service reports.
The results are in line with those of several other polls, the New York Post points points out.
According to a recent Rasmussen Reports survey, nearly two-thirds of those polled believe the southern border crisis should be called an invasion.
A large majority said border security is a vital national security interest (70%) and acknowledged that what is happening is an actual crisis (72%).
A recent report by the Monmouth University Polling Institute finds that a majority of those polled said they support building a border wall, a policy pursued by former President Donald Trump and ended by Biden the first day he took office. More than 80 per cent said illegal immigration is „either a very serious or somewhat serious problem”.
In a poll by the University of Texas/Texas Politics Project (UT/TPP),
a majority of Texans, including Hispanics and Blacks, support the wall and border security measures. They also found that Texas Democrats are increasingly supportive of Trump.
Overall, 65 per cent of Texas voters said they support the state building its own wall and cordons; 57 per cent support Texas installing sea buoys in the Rio Grande River; 66 per cent support putting additional state police and military resources on the border. A majority of Texas Hispanic voters, 56 per cent, also disagree with Biden’s handling of immigration and border security, according to the UT/TPP poll.
According to another UT/TPP poll, Texans overwhelmingly support Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star border security efforts, including Texas installing maritime barriers, building a border wall and physical barriers on the Texas-Mexico border, deploying additional resources to the border and busing illegal aliens north.
