Anti-Semitic incidents surge over 300 percent
A man in the United States assaulted an elderly Jewish couple using his belt while yelling, "Give me your earrings, Jew!" Anti-Semitic incidents in America have reached a record high since Hamas's attack on Israel on 7 October, with more than a 300% increase recorded in the past two months compared to any previous period.
Since 7 October, more anti-Semitic incidents have been reported in the United States than in any other two-month period in the 45 years since the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) began keeping such statistics, the group revealed on Monday.
According to data collected by the ADL, between 7 October and 7 December, authorities in the U.S. registered 2,031 anti-Semitic incidents.
This marks a staggering 337% increase from the same period in 2022 when only 465 incidents were reported.
The figure is nearly three times higher than the previous peak of approximately 45 incidents in a two-month period. A total of 741 incidents were recorded in October and November of the previous year, as confirmed by a representative from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) told The Post in the US.
ADL, which was founded in 1913 and began recording anti-Semitic incidents in 1979, called the increase „unprecedented”.
The staggering figures include 40 physical attacks, 337 incidents of vandalism, 749 cases of harassment and 905 rallies involving anti-Semitic rhetoric and support for terrorism against Israel,
– according to ADL.
Jewish communities are awash with hate, and there is no sign that it is receding, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said in a statement.
„Give me your earrings, Jew!”
In Los Angeles recently, a man assaulted an elderly couple on their way to a synagogue using a belt.
„Give me your earrings, Jew!” the attacker shouted before brutally beating the man.
The victims, Raphy, 75, and Rebecca, 70, who requested NBC not to use their surnames due to fear of reprisals, shared their ordeal with the network on Sunday, saying that
although they were deeply shaken by the attack, they are more determined than ever to wear their faith proudly, even as anti-Semitic incidents have increased across the US since Hamas’s attack on Israel.
„I am very upset, not because of [the injury], but because I was attacked as a Jew,” Raphy said.
