Asylum seekers receive better healthcare coverage than Germans

Migrants are causing waiting lists in the German healthcare system to become increasingly longer. In fact, a report has revealed that the German state funds dental treatments for asylum seekers to a greater extent than for German citizens.

According to a German dentist, he and his colleagues categorize patients into different groups, as reported by the ZDF public broadcasting channel. The doctor stated that „the most desirable patients” are private ones, who pay for their treatments themselves. They are followed closely by asylum seekers, as their care is fully covered by social services using taxpayers’ money—a fact confirmed by the anonymous dentist. He added that patients with standard German health insurance are the least preferred, as reimbursements for their treatments are generally much lower.

Emre Uysal, a Cologne-based dentist, confirmed that patients with standard German health insurance are actually a financial loss for doctors, as treatment costs often exceed the reimbursement limits set by health insurers.

The Brussels Signal news portal reported.

The dentist also noted that the influx of Ukrainian refugees has made waiting times for German patients even longer. „Ukrainian patients have told me that in Ukraine, people must pay out-of-pocket for all high-quality dental care. As a result, we have a large number of Ukrainian patients, which means that waiting times for others are getting longer and longer,” Uysal explained.

In September 2023, Friedrich Merz, leader of the CDU party, stated that asylum seekers were clogging the German healthcare system. „They sit down at the dentist’s office and get new teeth, while German citizens can’t even get an appointment,” Merz said in a German television interview. At the time, left-wing politicians accused him of inciting hatred and spreading misinformation.

The declining quality of healthcare has become a key issue in Germany. At the beginning of the new year, many health insurance providers raised premiums—in some cases by as much as 16% – insurance coverage has been diminished. Since January 1, 2025, the EU ban on mercury amalgam fillings has come into effect. As a result, patients with standard insurance now have to pay around €100 out of pocket for dental fillings.

Double Standards in Favor of Migrants in Other Sectors

As V4NA has previously reported, Germany’s education and employment sectors also reflect similar advantages for migrants over native Germans.

The weak performance of foreign students and those with migration backgrounds on PISA tests are often attributed to teacher bias. However, a new study contradicts the common claim that migrant students perform worse due to discrimination. Instead, it found that German children are actually the ones facing discrimination.

„Children from migrant backgrounds or socially disadvantaged households often receive better grades,”

said Sarah Bredtmann, a researcher at Duisburg-Essen University, Spiegel magazine reported. Teachers unconsciously try to uplift migrant-background students by grading them more favorably, believing they are socially disadvantaged. However, this has serious consequences for the German education system. One outcome of this grade inflation is that many children finishing elementary school struggle with basic literacy and writing skills, as the number of migrant-background students continues to rise.

Discrimination against German workers is also on the rise. Recently, a scandal erupted in Germany when it was revealed that the Federal Employment Agency mandated higher salaries for two migrant workers than their German colleagues for the same job.
