Banks urged to stop financing certain agricultural companies
A group of more than a hundred climate protection organisations has called on the biggest banks to cease financing to certain agribusinesses, in an effort to help reduce people's consumption of meat and dairy – all in the name of protecting the climate, of course.
Friends of the Earth, an organization of more than 100 climate protection advocacy groups, has sent an open letter to banking giants such as JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and other private banks demanding that they
halt the financing of global meat and dairy companies.
Agriculture Dive reports that the group believes the lending activities of financial institutions undermine their commitments to protecting the environment. In the open letter, they call on banks to stop any financing that facilitates the expansion of industrial livestock production. They also demand that financial institutions require their customers in the meat, dairy and feed industries to disclose their climate protection action plans.
According to the letter, increased lending has allowed the world’s largest emitters to increase their operations and output. Research by Profundo and Feedback Global shows that between 2019 and 2022, financial institutions lent 15 per cent more to the largest meat, dairy and feed companies than in the previous four years. Bank of America, Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase provided and underwrite more than half of the $134 billion in loans and financing to the meat and dairy sector.
„Industrial livestock companies are incompatible with a secure future for our planet, so it’s time for banks and investors to turn off the taps and stop providing the financing that enables their growth,”
Martin Bowman, Senior Policy and Campaign Manager at Feedback Global, said in a statement.
Slay News had reported earlier that
a government report is calling for the closure of all airports and a complete ban on the consumption of meat and dairy products by the general population to comply with the globalist „Net Zero” initiative.
The report, prepared for the UK government by Oxford University and Imperial College London, sets out a timetable for when certain targets should be achieved. In addition to closing airports and outlawing the consumption of beef and lamb, the report also calls for significant restrictions on the agricultural industry and for no new buildings to be built.
