Explosions and shootings: number of Swedes suffering from mental health issues on the rise

The number of Swedes struggling with mental health issues has demonstrably risen. Regular explosions and shootings are causing far more complex issues than just material or economic damage.

As previously reported by V4NA, by 2025, explosions and shootings had become an everyday occurrence in Sweden, with immigrant-led criminal gangs having infiltrated virtually every level of Swedish society.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has gone so far as to describe the escalating violence caused by gang wars as “domestic terrorism.”

Researchers at Uppsala University have examined the impact on mental health for those living in constant fear of explosions and shootings in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmo, and Uppsala. They found that

in affected areas, the number of prescriptions issued for the treatment of mental illness had demonstrably increased.

According to preliminary findings, the number of medical treatments for mental health conditions can rise by as much as ten per cent in the months following violent incidents in a given area.

“And this is, in fact, a huge increase,” said Mattias Ohman, an economist at Uppsala University’s Institute for Housing and Urban Research, speaking to Swedish Radio.

The study also analysed mobile data to examine changes in people’s movement patterns and how a spate of explosions and shootings might impact students’ academic performance.

Explosions and Shootings: Falling Property Prices

Explosions and shootings not only undermine safety and quality of life but also have clear economic consequences. Research shows that so-called “hotspots” of drug trafficking and gun violence have a measurable negative impact on housing prices: in these areas, for every percentage point increase in crime, property values fall by 1.5 per cent.

“If we adjust the indicator for other factors, we can see a price effect of up to ten per cent,”

– said Mats Wilhelmsson, Professor of Applied Financial Economics at KTH, speaking to SvD, adding that “due to new explosions and the significant attention surrounding them, the impact on prices may have been even greater.”

As is well known, clashes between gangs have multiplied since Christmas, linked to the ongoing conflict between gang leaders Rawa “Kurd Fox” Majid and Ismail “Strawberry” Abdo.

In 2023, criminologist Ardavan Khoshnood already pointed out that only war-torn countries experience more bombings than Sweden.

“Mexico is the only country not at war in the world where there are more explosions than in Sweden,”

– he noted.
