The Hungarian government has decided to increase pensions by 4.5 per cent effective retroactively from January, the daily Magyar Nemzet writes, citing the official Hungarian Gazette. Those entitled will receive increased pensions in November with the retroactive increase in one tranche disbursed also in November.

The increase applies to old-age pensions, widow’s pensions, orphan’s benefit and disability pensions, among other types.

This year, Hungarian pensions will increase by a total of 13.4 per cent, after a 5 per cent increase in January followed by a 3.9 per cent rise in June. Increasing pensions is being justified by high inflation.
