US lawyer Alan Dershowitz thinks the criminal prosecution against former president Donald Trump „is an extreme example of the politicisation of the criminal justice system”.

„And it’s very dangerous for America”

Dershowitz added in an interview with the Sky News Australia television channel.

As is known, Donald Trump was officially indicted on Tuesday at the initiative of the prosecutor. In the 16-page document, the former president is charged with 34 felony counts, all concerning the falsification of business records. The indictment is based on the alleged payment of hush money to an actress during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Alvin Bragg, whose initiative led to the indictment of the former president, had become a prosecutor with significant Democratic support.

US oligarch George Soros, one of the largest donors of the Democratic Party, donated 1 million dollars to the Color of Change PAC, which spent the sum on Bragg’s election.

The Color of Change PAC is a leftist group which calls itself the „largest online racial justice organization” in the United States.

Alan Dershowitz describes himself in the interview as a liberal Democrat who would not vote for Trump. However, he calls the prosecution of the former Republican president „a scandalous misuse of the criminal justice system.”

He says that

it is “a terrible, terrible precedent” if prosecutors linked to one party indict the other party’s members.

Bragg now aims to “go after” Trump, essentially “to help defeat Trump when he runs against the head of the Democratic party.”

The case, in which the Justice Department is investigating the discovery of classified documents from Trump’s presidential term in his Florida home, is legally strong but politically “impossible,” Mr Dershowitz said.

“They’re not going to be able to go after him unless they go after Joe Biden and Vice President Pence” Mr Dershowitz said, adding that he does not “think they’ll bring a case against Biden.” As is known, President Joe Biden was recently found to have had classified documents, some of them top secret, in three different places, including in the garage of one of his homes.

“It would mean the end of the American legal system as an objective, neutral, unbiased application of equality in the law” if Trump is convicted. “It would be a terrible day, but I don’t think it’s going to happen,” Mr Dershowitz concluded.
