The young pro-immigration activist, raped by a migrant earlier, was shocked to see her rapist walking free on the streets just a few days ahead of his scheduled court appearance.

The man’s trial began this week, after police arrested him in 2021 for allegedly raping 23-year-old Océane Decan at knifepoint in a car park in Bordeaux, France. The 58-year-old suspect, Yero Ba, was released from pre-trial detention in September of this year, which allowed him to roam freely on the streets until his trial began, according to the RMX News portal.

The man is unemployed, homeless, and has a long criminal history for violence and sexual assault, according to French newspaper Sud Quest. However, he was released by the trial judge despite the prosecutor’s recommendation that the migrant stay in detention until the beginning of his trial.

The case is receiving special attention as French media outlet Infos Bordeaux has pointed out that the victim is involved in pro-migrant activities:

If feminist associations, typically eerily silent in the face of this type of rape, have decided to publicise the case, it is because the victim is one of them. And indeed, Océane Decan, a committed supporter of the left, has fought for the cause of migrants since her youth, the paper writes.

During her high school years in Jean-Brito, she was already mobilising her classmates to help migrants through food collections. Before joining Sciences Po Bordeaux, she was involved in numerous organisations helping foreigners (Amnesty International, Utopia 56, or Sos Racisme).

Recently, MS Decan has expressed her dissatisfaction that her alleged rapist is still at large, even though she and the NGOs that she’s affiliated with have advocated for open borders which has led to increased sexual harassment of women and an explosion of rape across France.

Foreigners are responsible for 69 percent of rapes, sexual assaults and sexual harassment on French public transport. As French President Emmanuel Macron has admitted, half of all crimes in Paris are committed by foreigners, with researchers indicating that the actual figures are closer to two-thirds.

Against this backdrop, it comes as no surprise that an overwhelming majority of French citizens believe that the government should not admit any more migrants into France, with two-thirds of the people supporting a referendum on immigration, a recent poll suggests.

According to a survey conducted by the CSA Institute for CNEWS, 80% of French people want a ban on immigration, while only 19% support more new arrivals.

The rejection of any further mass immigration is the majority opinion in all age groups. The youngest demographic group is the most supportive; however, 68 percent remain opposed to further immigration, compared to 31 percent in favour.

People most opposed to open borders are in the 50-64 age group, where 88 percent of respondents reject the idea. This is five percentage points more than the rejection rate measured in the 65+ age group.

Opposition to mass immigration is almost unanimous among right-wing voters: while 100 percent of Eric Zemmour’s Reconquete voters and 98 percent of those backing Ms Le Pen’s National Rally oppose it,

a growing number of left-wing sympathizers are also questioning the number of new arrivals in France.

Fully, 56 percent of left-wing voters are opposed to receiving more arrivals, with only narrow majorities only found among supporters of the Radical Left Party (55 percent), the LFI (55 percent) and the Greens (52 percent).

The same poll also showed that two thirds of French citizens now support the idea of holding a plebiscite on immigration, as proposed by the right-wing parties a long time ago, who believe that the influx of new arrivals threatens the country’s social cohesion and leads to an increase in crime.

The rise in crime due to immigration was demonstrated last week by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, who revealed that 60% of those arrested in France are foreign nationals.

The idea of banning mass immigration is backed by by all age groups in the country, with the strongest support coming from the 50-64 age group, at 73 per cent. Young people aged 18-24 are the least in favour of a ban, but they still support it by a majority of 64 percent, with only 36 percent against.
