In Norway, the rise in the number of children and young people seeking professional treatment for gender dysphoria began with a family show called „Født i feil kropp” („Born in the wrong body”). The show was broadcast nationwide in 2014, psychiatric nurse Kathrine Larsen writes in her article published by the Nettavisen newspaper, as highlighted by the Norwegian Document news site.

According to Ms Larsen, things have gone too far, and many young people have no clue whatsoever about what it is that they are doing when they feel an urge to change their gender.

„Nowadays we see more and more cases where girls want to become boys and boys want to become girls. TikTok and YouTube are full of videos of gender-confused young people. These videos help in giving us a clear picture about gender reassignment and gender change, and they encourage us to question our identities. This creates a contagious effect that many believe is unhealthy,” writes the nurse.

Ms Larsen also explains that pointing out facts about gender reassignment is no longer allowed, because it can „offend” someone.

Many are afraid to say what they think out loud, lest they hould offend someone and be labelled as „politically incorrect.” This is because we are expected tofeel positive about this „trend.” If we don’t, we will be persecuted and branded as unethical and immoral. I am not alone with this thought, and no one should be silenced under the aegis of freedom of expression,

– she emphasized.

Ms Larsen also points out that the romanticisation of gender dysphoria has been incorporated into Norway’s national curriculum, and today

Norwegian schools are encouraging children to question who they are.

„It is worrying that our curriculum, inclusing textbooks from major publishers, now present a new understanding of what gender really is. In today’s schools, students are being taught things that are not bolstered by scientific knowledge and evidence, which can be harmful,” the nurse underlines.

She points out that many transgender people struggle with mental illness and that Sweden, which used to be a pioneer in gender reaffirming treatments, has now tightened its grip. „We see more and more people who regret their gender reassignment. There are many warning lights flashing,” she

Ms Larsen has decided to take a tough stance against today’s mainstream society, which she says „applauds our denial of reality and insecurity about ourselves”. „If everyone can be who they „feel” they are, then we have an unethical, impractical and counterproductive starting point for the stability we all seek. Could this be part of the reason why anxiety and depression are so common among young people today?” – she asks in conclusion.
