PM Orban: Hungarian government is on the side of peace
Inflation cannot be reined in unless there is peace and Brussels withdraws the sanctions. Hungary is able to reduce inflation with the government aiming to have single-digit inflation by the end of the year, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban told parliament's Monday session ahead of the regular agenda.
On the first anniversary marking the outbreak of the war, Hungary should make clear that its previous position has remained unchanged, Hungary’s premier said. The MPs of Fidesz and the Christian Democrats (KDNP) deserve support, so that parliament could, on this first anniversary, issue a resolution that states: Hungary remains pro-peace and wants to stay out of the Russia-Ukraine war in the future, too.
We need a clear resolution from parliament, because Hungary is under enormous pressure. „Anyone can see that they want to force us into the war,” they want us to „join the camp of the pro-war countries,”
he added.
Hungary suffers acts of provocation on a daily basis, Mr Orban stressed. ”I ask you not to heed these provocations, and let’s stick with Hungary’s interests in the international political arena,” PM Orban said.
If this war continues, more and more people will die, hyperinflation and the prospect of an economic collapse will become permanent, and the conflict can take on global dimensions, Hungary’s prime minister said. He stressed that Hungary, just like the majority of the countries in the world, is emphasizing the importance of peace on every possible platform. This is why Hungary supports China’s peace plan, too.
Hungary’s prime minister underlined that his government had introduced several anti-inflationary measures. “The trouble has been unleashed by Brussels with its sanctions policy,” he said, adding that the general price hikes are also due to the sanctions. Nevertheless, Hungary will drive down inflation into single digits by year’s end, Mr Orban said.
In terms of the economy, he said the government had launched a factory-saving scheme, along with the necessary loan programme. Banks in Hungary are launching a 430-billion forint loan programme, but loans will also be made available for investments designed to improve Hungary’s exports, helping some 60,000 businesses. In addition, the government has also set up a new national capital holding, which also assists businesses in saving jobs. Subsidies for commuting to work have also been increased, PM Orban said, adding that the government will support firms that employ workers under 25 or over 25 who have been unemployed for at least one month.
Last year, Hungary decided to drain some of the extra profits of certain companies and divert this money into the government’s utility bill protection fund to help Hungarian families and businesses, and it will do the same this year, PM Orban said. He added that
the reduced utility prices will be maintained in 2023.
He also mentioned that the government has made some long-term energy policy decisions: it will modernise and develop Hungarian industry over the next decade, but this will require a significant amount of energy.
PM Orban warned that
the blowing up of the Nord Stream pipeline was an act of terrorism, and together with Serbia, they have made it clear that if this were to happen to the South Stream, it would be impossible to cover up the incident, as they’ve done in the case of the Nord Stream pipeline.
Authorities must investigate all child pornography cases
The government has given clear instructions to Hungarian authorities to investigate all cases of child pornography, Mr Orban stressed.
He drew attention to the fact that
the number of child pornography cases is rising sharply, which shows that gender propaganda should not be taken lightly.
We expect, and I personally expect, the heads of school districts and school principals to take immediate action in all such cases,” Mr Orban said.
Last year 3.7 million Hungarians said „no” to the gender propaganda, he recalled.
„Even if the whole world goes mad, even if Brussels is trying to excuse the inexcusable, Hungary should remain the island of normality in Europe, where families are safe to send their kids to school.”
Prime Minister Orban called on all parliamentary groups to cooperate in the protection of children.
