Proof of US benefitting the most from war in Ukraine

The issuance of an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin is the latest proof of the application of double standards, Russia's Foreign Ministry says. At the same time it would be difficult at this point to deny that the US is the biggest winner in the war so far.

Double standards, Western style

With the US aggression drawing to an end in 1975, the Americans began to airlift children, including infants, en masse from Vietnam, Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, recalled on her social media page after after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin. He is accused of being responsible for committing war crimes in Ukraine. There are reasonable grounds to believe that Mr Putin bears criminal responsibility for the unlawful deportation and transfer of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation, the ICC statement reads.

In her post, Maria Zakharova continued that in 1975, the US military set out to

„completely erase the cultural identity of babies: they were destined to be adopted out to families living in the US and allied countries, actually depriving thousands of children of their homeland and culture, and erasing their national and ethno-social affiliation”.

The foreign spokesperson added that not only the operation itself is clearly a war crime, but also its implementation.

During the so-called Operation Babylift, 78 children lost their lives due to negligence after the military plane carrying them crashed over Vietnam. „Despite this, the Americans rewarded the crew and continued the operation: about another three thousand children were abducted from Vietnam. It is still impossible to tell their exact number. Many of them, as adults, are still looking for their real parents,” Ms Zakharova said, remarking with some derision,

„I am really, really looking forward to the International Criminal Court issuing an arrest warrant for the US leadership, the Pentagon and all the ‘humanitarian foundations’ involved in this operation”.

As regards the relocating of children from predominantly Russian-speaking areas, Russia stated that the children receive everything they need and most of them keep in touch with their families. An action plan exists for each child to eventual return to his or her parents. Russia has never prevented and will never prevent children from returning to their relatives. If parents or legal representatives are able and willing to take them back, Russia will do everything to facilitate this.

Russian news outlets have commented on the warrant for Putin’s arrest, saying that it was specifically pushed by the West to discourage Chinese leader Xi Jinping from visiting Moscow. This is believed to have been confirmed by the head of the US State Department, Antony Blinken, when he said:

„That President Xi is traveling to Russia days after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for President Putin suggests that China feels no responsibility to hold the Kremlin accountable for the atrocities committed in Ukraine, and instead of even condemning them, it would rather provide diplomatic cover for Russia to continue to commit those very crimes.”

Arrest warrant intensifies the war situation

The arrest warrant for the Russian president will only escalate the war and could push the parties even further away from peace, many leading politicians say. The clashes are heading in a direction where there will be fighting on a scale never seen before, a previous report by V4NA cited Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic as saying. The number of those pointing out that the current situation benefits the United States the most is growing by the day. The ultimate winner of the whole conflict and crisis will be the United States, the Financial Times writes.

The US has been able to supply a desperate Europe with energy, especially liquefied natural gas (LNG), at a very high price, which has brought billions in profits to the US, a comprehensive analysis published by the Center for European Policy Analysis pointed out. US arms firms are also benefiting, as with Europe’s crumbling national defences suddenly under the spotlight, it was to be expected that orders for top-of-the-range fifth-generation combat aircraft like the F-35 are suddenly on the must-have list. Many other systems are likewise in demand, the Center writes.
