School starts as normal, but epidemiological procedures need to be taken very seriously

School starts as normal "with the addition that epidemiological procedures must be taken very seriously," the Hungarian minister of human resources emphasized in an interview with the Hungarian public media. Miklos Kasler said that if coronavirus appeared in a school, then one class or, in the case of more infections, several classes or the whole school would switch to digital education.

The minister said that the National Public Health Center (NNK) had provided public education institutions with an eight-page summary containing its proposals for preventing an outbreak and curbing the spread of infections. From these, each school can select the procedure most suitable for the institution, which requires the fulfilment of three things together.

Among them, the minister mentioned „preventing the spread of the virus through air and surfaces.” As he said, all the possibilities for this have been listed, they can be fulfilled, and for this „all professional and financial support will be provided by the government,” he declared.

He said „school can start as usual, with the addition that these epidemiological procedures must be taken very seriously.” At the same time, he warned students to avoid large groupings, keep a distance of 1.5-2 metres, wear a face mask, and wash hands frequently.

Mr Kasler said it was possible that the virus occurred in one or two classes in a school, but he believes it has little chance that the infection hits the school in every class at the same time. He added that if the infection appeared in any of the more than 3,000 Hungarian public educational institutions, then one class or, in the case of more infections, several classes or the whole school would switch to digital education.
