Yet another expensive hotel reported to accommodate migrants
A four-star hotel in an English town is surrounded by great mistery. It has now been revealed to have housed immigrants. Locals know little about the situation, but they disagree that the posh hotel, which is officially closed due to coronavirus, should accommodate asylum seekers.
The Midland Hotel is a 4-star hotel in Derby, England. Guests have to pay a princely sum for a room there, and the locals are also proud of the establishment, touted as the oldest surviving purpose-built railway hotel in the world.
Now, however, many say the British government has tarnished the hotel s reputation, as immigrants were reportedly accommodated there by the Home Office. It is now home to people who have come to the country legally, with the approval of the government, but have not yet received the necessary papers. There are exactly 230 asylum seekers in the hotel, but the situation is surrounded by mystery.
A local politician, Councillor Alan Graves says the government is being secretive about the situation there. The Home Office has refused to state on-record whether or not the Derby hotel is being used to house asylum-seekers. Moreover, there are also claims that the Station Hotel opposite is also being used to house immigrants.
There is a man in the video ferrying what appears to be trays and plates between the two hotels which stand facing each other. The footage also shows a note on the door of the hotel stating that the building is closed due to Covid-19. However, there are people inside, with others playing football in the yard.
Someone on Twitter also pointed out the mystery surrounding the hotel. He wrote that councillors in Derby visited the hotel after being told it was housing health workers. However, when they got to the scene, they found it was full of immigrants.

Alan Graves does not understand the secrecy surrounding the situation and also said that when he visited the hotel, those present did not tolerate him. He believes if they want people to accept that they are accommodating migrants in the hotel, it must be honestly reported.
The politician also pointed out that the British government had previously promised to deal with the migration crisis, but they had not yet succeeded. Nigel Farage, leader of the Brexit Party, also frequently reports about the situation in Britain. At the end of July, he made an investigative video, which revealed that it costs the Brits more than four billion euros to accommodate the illegal migrants in 4-star hotels. Farage illustrated all this with the case of the Hilton Hotel in Bromsgrove.
It seems something similar is unfolding in the Midland Hotel as well. The situation in Derby has also triggered the protest of the city council that has already asked the government to stop accommodating migrants there. The UK Home Office, on the other hand, said that in the current healthcare situation this is the only way asylum seekers can be temporarily accommodated and provided with adequate space to keep distance. However, the video posted by Graves shows just the opposite, as those in the hotel do not really observe social distancing rules.
