Youngest MP would give two-year-olds suffrage after starting her career by lying
Green MP Emilia Fester even managed to outbid her party in its approach to voting rights: she believes that even two-year-olds should be given the right to vote. Ms Fester has already made headlines with other immature statements.
Emilia Fester. the youngest member of the German Bundestag, has debated with Christian Democrat Wolfgang Schauble, the oldest MP, in a newspaper interview. When it came to lowering the voting age – one of the Greens’ biggest aspirations since joining the governing coalition – Mr Schauble asked Ms Fester if she would even give his two-year-old granddaughter the right to vote. Fester then replied that
“This is my personal opinion. But as a member of our parliamentary group, I say: let 15, 16, 17-year-olds vote.”
One of the reasons Ms Fester gave for this was that she personally had wanted to vote since she was 8 years old. Her party, the Greens, campaigned in the last election to lower the voting age to 14, but had to settle for 16 because after negotiations with other members of the governing coalition.
This is not the first time Emilia Fester has drawn public attention with her immature statements. The 24-year-old MP has recently complained to Spiegel that her whole youth is consumed by the fact that she is a politician she cannot have any hobbies because she is always busy and exhausted. Fester was heavily criticised for her statement, especially because she pockets a salary of ten thousand euros a month and some additional allowances. Very few people can dream of such a handsome salary, no matter how hard they work. A 24-year-old nurse works three shifts, has no bank holidays or weekends, yet earns a fraction of Fester’s payment, a commenter wrote.
Krankenschwester (24), 3 Schichten, kein Wochenende, keine Feiertage, für ein Bruchteil des Einkommens der Frau Fester.

Fester despises those who have to work hard for a living from the age of 16, another commenter remarked.
#GruenerMist— Prosinn 🥝 (@prosinn) May 16, 2022
„Poor child, she sacrifices her youth for securing a livelihood. I have to cry…,” yet another person wrote.
Armes Kind, sie opfert Ihre Jugend für die Versorgung Ihres ganzes Lebens. Ich muss weinen ..

A fourth commenter burst out writing „Idiot me, I only sacrificed my youth for school, studies and part-time jobs at the laundry and the university.” Another user noted that he would feel more comfortable if Fester considered it an honour to serve Germany because that’s what she decided to do without anyone forcing her.

Even during her first speech in parliament, the Green Party MP behaved immaturely and stated falsehood. She blamed the tough restrictive measures on people who did not get the jab against the coronavirus. Because of them, she said, she couldn’t go to parties, couldn’t kiss anyone or go on a holiday.
However, the latter was certainly a lie, as on her social media page, she had bragged about her vacation in Denmark and other trips she made.
