US state becomes sanctuary for trans kids

As of 1 January, a California law will protect parents who allow their children to receive gender-reassignment treatment or gender-affirming care.

Since 1 January, the state of California has become a real sanctuary for transgender children, with the so-called SB 107 law, signed by Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom a few months ago, having come into effect. The legislation protects transgender children and their families when they move to California from Alabama, Texas, Idaho or any other state that criminalise the parents of transgender children for allowing their kids to receive gender-affirming health care. In such cases, the California law helps protect them from having their children removed or from being prosecuted for supporting such medical interventions.

The bill was drafted by Senator Scott Wiener, who in 2020 also lobbied for a law that reduced the penalties for adults who had oral or anal sex with a minor in cases when the adult is not more than 10 years older than the minor. The law also eliminated automatic sex offender registration in such cases and gave judges discretion to make that decision.

„The rainbow wave is real, and it’s coming. Thank you, Governor Newsom, for standing with our community,”

Scott Wiener said in connection with the new law taking force. There is, by the way, nothing in the new law that requires that the gender-affirming health care be performed with parental consent. It also fails to specify a minimum age at which a child qualifies for surgery or pharmaceuticals.

When decision-makers adopt such laws, they ignore expert opinions that point out that gender-reassignment and gender-affirming interventions cause irreversible harm, and are particularly dangerous for children, as they are not yet able to decide about their future. In a video that emerged recently, the director of the gender clinic at Boston Children’s Hospital explains that puberty blockers can lead to infertility (while the hospital’s website claims the opposite).

„Children and adolescents who are in puberty may choose to pause puberty by using puberty blockers. These are temporary medicines that are completely reversible, they do not cause any permanent changes,” the hospital’s website explains.

In the video, Dr Jeremi Carswell, the director of the clinic, admitted that when it comes to puberty blockers, fertility is a „huge issue”. Dr Carswell recalled a specific case when a 12 or 13 year-old person turned infertile, clearly due to puberty blockers.

But, for an adolescent taking these drugs, there may also be other consequences. Dr Marci Bowers, chair of the World Federation for Transgender Health, recently said that children who took puberty blockers in the second stage of puberty have “never experienced orgasm.”

The state has also passed several measures that give transgender people various privileges. San Francisco, for example, has launched a guaranteed income pilot program exclusively for transgender residents.

According to the program’s website, preference is given to black, indigenous or coloured applicants, and undocumented residents can also apply. The 10-page PDF application form asks for a remarkable amount of information about identity, including 15 pronoun categories, 17 sexual orientations and over 90 gender options.

Applicants must present proof of income and photo identification. The pilot project will select 55 applicants and is expected to run for 18 months.

As previously reported by V4NA, the number of breast reconstruction surgeries performed on adolescents with gender dysphoria increased by nearly 400 per cent in the United States between 2016 and 2019, according to a recent report in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The researchers also analysed the prevalence of masculinising and feminising breast reconstruction surgery. Masculinising breast surgery involves the removal of breasts, while feminising breast surgery involves the augmentation of breast tissue. These are designed to make the image of the chest more consistent with the transgender person’s gender identity.

The study has now found that the number of breast plastic surgeries performed on minors has increased from around 100 in 2016 to 489 in 2019, which is

an increase of 389 per cent over three years.

The study looked at the 1130 operations performed and found that the vast majority of thoracic reconstructive surgery over the three-year period was masculinising thoracic surgery. Feminising breast surgeries accounted for only 1.4 per cent of all surgeries. It was also revealed that

while the majority of children who underwent surgery were 17 years old, about 5.5 per cent were under 14.

US President Joe Biden supports transgenderism for children. In a statement issued earlier, he said

“Transgender children bring fulfillment to their parents, joy to their friends, and are made in the image of God. Affirming a transgender child’s identity is one of the best things a parent, teacher, or doctor can do to help keep children from harm, and parents who love and affirm their children should be applauded and supported.”

Transgender children everywhere should have easier access to gender affirming services, Biden said.
