Queen Elizabeth II dies
Queen Elizabeth II, who ascended Britain's throne on 6 February 1952, has died after reigning for more than seven decades, at her summer residence at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
In her 97th year, Queen Elizabeth II, the ruler of the United Kingdom, passed away peacefully on 8 September, reads a brief statement issued by Buckingham Palace.
Queen Elizabeth ascended to Britain’s throne on 6 February 1952. Following the unexpected death of her father, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth became the longest-reigning monarch in British history, with nearly 71 years on the throne.
With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, her first son Charles, 73, has ascended the throne.
