Ukraine war just a pretext for Ursula von der Leyen's federalist plan?
Brussels may use the Russia–Ukraine war to further the European Union's centralisation.
The EU’s leftist-liberal leadership has repeatedly described itself as „the most successful peace project in history,” and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012. Now, however, it is launching the largest European rearmament programme since the Second World War – pointed out Harald Vilimsky, an MEP of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPO), who’s also a member of the Patriots for Europe group.
„We didn’t end up here by chance: a non-EU country was attacked. Since then, the spiral of fear has been constantly growing, convincing us and the European public that we will be the next victims of aggression. There is no sign of that, but the point is that we are arming ourselves. As an old saying goes, one should never let a good crisis go to waste,”
– the Austrian politician said, referring to how EC Preident Ursula von der Leyen and her inner circles are using the Ukraine war to advance their own federalisation objectives. He added that a new EU fund carrying €150 billion in EU debt is legally unsound. „They want to unlawfully lift the debt limits to raise the €650 billion that Ms. von der Leyen hopes to secure from member states’ additional defence spending. The existing EU budget would be partly reallocated and used for defence purposes – something which Article 41 of the EU Treaty clearly excludes. According to their proposal, the European Investment Bank would have to open up to financing the defence industry – yet its charter prohibits this. This shows that the goal is further centralisation of EU structures. The war in Ukraine is merely a convenient opportunity for this.” – FPO’s lawmaker explained.
