Reverend refuses to pay tribute to veteran hero

A veteran hero who died a few days ago was held in very high esteem across the country, but not everyone shared the sentiment. A reverend refused to join the Natinal Clap to pay tribute to the veteran soldier, describing it as a cult of white British nationalism.

Sir Tom Moore, a World War II veteran held in very high esteem in the UK, died a few days ago. He was over 100 years old and earned his fame, among other things, by raising around 33 million pounds for the British NHS last year by walking 100 laps around his garden.

After his death, a  national clap was organised in his honour. Anglican Reverend Jarel Robinson-Brown, however, did not share the sentiment. The man of colour tweeted that he did not agree with the national commemoration.

Robinson-Brown wrote that the „cult of Captain Tom is the cult of White British Nationalism.” He added that he would „offer prayers for the repose of his kind and gererous soul,” but he „would not be joining the National Clap.”

His tweet, however, has triggered a huge backlash with some calling him a bigot and writing that he should not represent the church. A commenter described Jarel Robinson-Brown as „a disgrace” and said his views were „vile.”

Robinson-Brown has since deleted his tweet and apologised for its insensitive timing and content. He also appears to have deleted his Twitter account.
