The supermodel is a progressive icon and has been campaigning for free choice of gender identity for some time. In an October interview, she even supported the idea of children choosing an identity for themselves when they turn 18.
„When my husband and I tell friends that I m pregnant, their first question after Congratulations is almost always Do you know what you want? We like to respond that we won t know the gender until our child is 18 and that they ll let us know then. Everyone laughs at this. There is a truth to our line, though, that we ultimately have no idea who – rather than what – is growing inside my belly.”
According to some, it is unacceptable in social media today to write about a baby as a boy, especially as the model herself has argued that her child will decide on his true identity after the age of 18.
Ratajkowski became the target of hateful comments within seconds, with hundreds of thousands of people calling her a traitor.
