The latest scandal shook the Thuringian state parliament.

On Tuesday, police raided the office of a member of the left-wing Linke Party in Thuringia on suspicion of child pornography possession. At the request of the public prosecutor’s office in Erfurt, the Thuringian judicial committee lifted the politician’s immunity the same day.

The name of the MP in question has not yet been revealed. The prosecutor’s office did not comment on the case when contacted by Bild.

Steffen Dittes, leader of the Linke parliamentary group, later said,

„I am shocked by the seriousness of the accusation.”

He added that the whole group would give its full support to the work of the prosecutor’s office and investigating police. He also expressed the hope that the judiciary would investigate the case consistently and fully. The MP had allegedly used the IP address of the Thuringia State Parliament to visit illegal websites containing child pornography, the German news portal Junge Freiheit reported.
