In the challenging period of the global pandemic, it is extremely important to commemorate the outstanding events in our history that strengthen our national unity, Viktor Orban wrote in his letter, adding that Hungarians and Americans are committed to values shared by their countries, such as freedom, sovereignty, and independence. Efforts to preserve the Christian heritage, supporting families and providing joint assistance to Israel are dominant factors in the policies of both countries, the Hungarian premier continued.

„We will not forget that the United States has sheltered to many freedom-loving Hungarians over the past centuries. People of Hungarian descent living in the United States represent a strong bond between our nations,” Viktor Orban wrote. He emphasized that independence and sovereignty „are values that my government and the Hungarian people cherish and want to preserve even in difficult times. As a committed NATO member, we agree that we must play a fair part in protecting the Euro-Atlantic community.”

The prime minister „was happy” to recall the memories of last year s summit held in the White House on 13 May, as well as his latest phone conversation with the US president on 6 May this year, when they had the opportunity to exchange views on extremely important issues. In this regard, Viktor Orban assured Donald Trump in his letter that „we will continue to protect our borders and fight illegal migration”.

„My government wants to strengthen our close bilateral ties and stay a committed ally of the United States. I personally look forward to being able to continue working with you in the future. I wish you good health and good luck in your extremely responsible duties,” the Hungarian premier concluded his letter.
